This is one of several movies I've ordered from Amazon over the last couple months. About a girl from Iran growing up during the revolution, then getting a visa and moving to Europe, and then moving back to Iran. I've watched it once in the original French with English subtitles. I'll add a "review" after I watch it again in English. My first impression is that Persepolis is certainly like no other story told through animation that I've ever seen. In fact, it's like no other animation I've ever seen. Like a two dimensional puppet show almost, but more than that. The amount of emotional energy that is harnessed is what is most suprising for me through this common artistic medium made uncommon.
I was pleasantly surprised by this film and the way it was able to capture the emotion of times and places that seem so unattainable to me. Have you heard of the Israeli film 'Waltz With Bashir"? Another animated film about the 1982 War in Lebanon. I have only seen the trailer, but the animation and story looks amazing! Here's the trailer if you're interested: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ylzO9vbEpPg
